Surprise! You're not in America anymore! - Blog Assignment #3

We had our Korean Economics class today and South Korea is literally wealthy in all aspects; money, culture, and people.  I was always surprised at how successful such a small country can become in such a short amount of time.  South Korea hasn’t had a long history as a country and now it’s one of the most powerful countries in the world.  As soon as I stepped foot into the country, South Korea's success could be seen through the organized public transportation systems, technological advances seen in things such as appliances to cars and buildings, bustling businesses everywhere, and pop culture that I’ve seen people worldwide adore.   Now that I've immersed myself into the country, I can see where their success stems from.  Everyone works.  They don't only work but they work hard and in harmony.  Business owners thrive because consumers are willing to buy.  Every day, I am exposed to hundreds' and maybe even thousands of people out in the streets working and buying.  People are always doing something and I think that is where their surprising success comes from.  I'm just taken aback by how efficient this tiny country is compared to many regions in the US who are still stuck in a stalemate.  Maybe the US should look into developing the 5 Year Plans that helped South Korea become so successful.  With that said, South Korea has just taken my breath away.  Many things surprise me about South Korea but those were main aspects.  Taking everything in is still unreal sometimes but for now I’m going to enjoy South Korea every last minute and hopefully come back one day.

  1. I was also amazed at how far South Korea has come in such a short amount of time. After walking the streets of Seoul, you'd never believe that the pictures of the city taken only 50 years ago are real. The 5 year plans that we learned about were really great and I'm surprised at how effective they were in turning the country around. Some of the goals were even surpassed! Hopefully South Korea keeps it's momentum and doesn't stall out like other developed countries.
